Baby bird, a cardinal fledgling, being fed a wild blueberry. Nomnomnom. This little dude’s parents knocked themselves out by attacking their reflections in our patio door around 7am. This little guy hadn’t moved from his perch on the tree since he fledged. His parents *should* have been feeding him at least once or twice an hour, but they were still derped out from the glass attack and were ambling around the yard, not doing much. After 2 hours of watching from a distance, we decided to offer him some wild berries–we’ve watched the adult cardinals eating from the same bushes over the past few days, so figured it was a safe bet. Around noon, the big bad daddy cardinal finally snapped out of it and came back chirping at us, so we peaced out and let him do his thing. Baby fledgling duder is still chilling on the Rose of Sharon just outside my door, under the care of his daddy, so we’ll be keeping our distance.

A male and female cardinal bird Audubon society

Wandering off the usual path today, and somewhat into the woods, led to this Cardinal, high up in a tree, singing for a mate and/or to warn other males away. Photo & Video contests: artdeadlineslist.com

On the last morning of our vacation in the Lake Champlain area, we were awakened by the banging noises of something slamming against the window next to our bed. It was a male cardinal, who had a female waiting on a tree stump (lower right, out of the video’s range), and he was in protective mode. Above the bedroom window are a series of bright red lights. In addition, there is a mirrored effect on the window. These factors led us to believe that the cardinal was defending his territory from “the other cardinal.” We took three brief videos. The cardinal kept this up for over an hour, and then, once the bikes were loaded up, we left the campsite.

SORRY ITS SIDEWAYS! A Cardinal crashed into my window and I had to save it from the BIG excitable dogs. Fell in love with the little fella. Thought it was super cool to hold a wild birdie.
